Taken in order these six pages cover Holy Week: Palm Sunday for the entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper for Thursday, the cross for Friday, resurrection morning for Sunday, and the road to Emmaus for the week after. One page a day gives a child the shape of the week without a worksheet or a lesson plan.
If you only have time for two, use Palm Sunday and resurrection morning. They are the bookends, and a child who colors both understands that something happened in between even before you tell them what.
The hardest part of Easter for a small child is not the resurrection, which they accept easily, but the days before it. The pages here are drawn so you can go as far as your family is ready to go: the cross page shows an empty cross with a cloth over it rather than the crucifixion, so it can sit in a five-year-old’s pile without raising a question you were not planning to answer that afternoon.
If a child does ask, the honest short answer is usually enough. He died, and then he was alive again, and the people who loved him were there for both. Children handle that better than most adults expect, and far better than a tidy explanation that stops making sense when they are ten.
