THE EARLY CHURCH — EPISODE 8: PETER ESCAPES PRISON

Okay — this story is action-packed AND hilarious. You're going to love it.
King Herod had started attacking my church. He arrested Peter, threw him in prison, and chained him between two soldiers. Two MORE soldiers guarded the door. Four squads — sixteen men total — assigned to guard one fisherman.
But while Peter sat in chains, the church prayed. Not casually. The Bible says they prayed EARNESTLY — all night long.
The night before Peter's trial — Peter was SLEEPING. Chained between two soldiers, facing possible execution, and the man is snoring. That tells you something about his trust in God.
Suddenly, an angel appeared. Light flooded the cell. The angel struck Peter on the side — "Quick, get up!" The chains fell off his wrists. Clattered to the ground.
"Put on your sandals and follow me."
Peter obeyed — but he thought he was dreaming. They walked right past the first guard. Past the second guard. Nobody moved.
Then they reached the big iron gate that led to the city. And that gate? It swung open ALL BY ITSELF. They walked through it, down one street, and then — poof — the angel disappeared.
Peter stood there blinking. "The Lord sent His angel and rescued me!"
Now HERE is where it gets funny.
Peter hurried to Mary's house, where believers were praying for him. He knocked on the door. A servant girl named Rhoda heard his voice and was SO excited she forgot to open the door! She ran back screaming, "PETER IS AT THE DOOR!"
Everyone said, "You're out of your mind!"
She kept insisting. They kept saying it couldn't be true. Meanwhile — poor Peter is still outside, knocking!
When they finally opened the door and saw him — they were absolutely astonished. The very thing they had been praying for all night was standing right in front of them, and they almost didn't believe it.
I love this story. It makes me laugh every time. But here's the real lesson: pray boldly. Pray desperately. Pray like everything depends on it — because it does. But when I answer? Don't be shocked. Don't stand there with your mouth open. Open the door!
