30 Short Bible Verses for Kids (Perfect for Memorization)
Sometimes the shortest verses carry the most power. A child who knows thirty short Bible verses has a toolkit for life — words to reach for when they're scared, sad, grateful, confused, or bursting with joy.
Every verse on this list is under 15 words. They're easy to memorize, easy to recall, and easy to apply. We've organized them by theme so you can pick the ones your child needs most right now.
Love (6 Verses)
1. 1 John 4:8
"God is love."
Three words. The simplest, most profound statement about God in the entire Bible. When your child asks "What is God like?" — this is the answer.
2. 1 John 4:19
"We love because he first loved us."
Every act of love traces back to God. He loved you before you were born, before you could love Him back. That's the source.
3. John 13:34
"Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
Jesus said this at the Last Supper. His command is beautifully simple: love like I love. Generously, patiently, sacrificially.
4. Psalm 136:1
"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever."
God's love doesn't expire. It doesn't depend on your behavior. It endures — through every mistake, every hard day, every season of your life.
5. Romans 8:38
"Neither death nor life... will be able to separate us from the love of God."
This is a shortened form of Paul's powerful declaration. Nothing in all creation — nothing — can come between you and God's love.
6. Mark 12:31
"Love your neighbor as yourself."
Jesus called this the second greatest commandment. Treat others the way you want to be treated. It's the golden rule with God's authority behind it.
Courage (6 Verses)
7. Joshua 1:9
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
God's command to Joshua before leading Israel into the Promised Land. Four instructions: be strong, be brave, don't fear, don't give up.
8. Psalm 56:3
"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you."
David wrote this while being held captive by enemies. Even the bravest people get scared. The difference is what they do with that fear — they give it to God.
9. Isaiah 41:10
"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God."
God doesn't tell you not to fear because the situation isn't scary. He tells you not to fear because He's standing right beside you in it.
10. Philippians 4:13
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
Not "I can do this by myself." Through Him. God's strength plus your effort equals overcoming any challenge.
11. 2 Timothy 1:7
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power."
Fear doesn't come from God. Power does. Love does. Self-control does. When you feel afraid, remember whose Spirit lives in you.
12. Deuteronomy 31:6
"Be strong and courageous... for the Lord your God goes with you."
God doesn't send you into hard situations alone. He goes WITH you. Every step, every moment, every battle.
Trust (6 Verses)
13. Proverbs 3:5
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart."
Not half your heart. Not most of your heart. All of it. Full, complete trust — even when things don't make sense.
14. Psalm 46:1
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
A refuge is a safe place in a storm. God is that place. And He's not hard to find — He's ever-present, always right there.
15. Psalm 23:1
"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing."
When a good shepherd is in charge, the sheep have everything they need. Food, water, safety, rest. God is your shepherd, and you lack nothing.
16. Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God."
When everything is loud and chaotic, when your mind is racing and your heart is pounding — stop. Be still. God is still God.
17. Jeremiah 29:11
"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord."
You may not know what tomorrow holds, but God does. And He says those plans are good — plans for hope and a future.
18. Matthew 6:34
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself."
Jesus said this during the Sermon on the Mount. Today has enough to deal with. Let God handle tomorrow.
Kindness (6 Verses)
19. Ephesians 4:32
"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other."
Three clear commands: be kind, be compassionate, forgive. If every child followed this verse, playgrounds would transform overnight.
20. Colossians 3:12
"Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."
Paul says to "clothe yourselves" — put these on every morning like you put on your shirt. Wear kindness. Wear patience.
21. Luke 6:31
"Do to others as you would have them do to you."
The golden rule, straight from Jesus. Before you act, ask: "Would I want someone to do this to me?"
22. Galatians 5:22
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness."
Nine qualities that grow in you when God's Spirit is at work. They're called "fruit" because they grow naturally — you don't force them.
23. Micah 6:8
"Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God."
What does God want from you? Three things: fairness, mercy, and humility. That's it. Those three cover everything.
24. Proverbs 11:17
"Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves."
Kindness isn't just good for others — it's good for you. When you're kind, you build a life full of trust and friendship. Cruelty destroys it.
