What Is the Story of Balaams Donkey for Kids?
Okay, I need you to stop whatever else you're thinking about because today's story has a TALKING DONKEY. Yes, you heard that right. A donkey that opens its mouth and has an actual conversation. This really happened. Let's get into it.
So Israel is moving through the wilderness, and they're getting close to the land of Moab. The king of Moab — a guy named Balak — is absolutely terrified. He's seen what God has done for Israel, and he's thinking, "There is NO way I can fight these people." So he comes up with what he thinks is a genius plan.
He sends messengers to a prophet named Balaam and says, "Come curse these Israelites for me. I'll pay you a ton of money." Balaam asks God about it, and God says, "No. You will not curse them, because they are blessed." Pretty clear, right?
But Balak keeps pushing, keeps offering more money, and eventually Balaam gets on his donkey and heads toward Moab. Here's where it gets absolutely wild.
This story comes from Numbers 22-24 and is part of the Old Testament.

Quiz: Test What Your Child Learned
After watching the video, see if your child can answer these questions:
Why did King Balak hire the prophet Balaam?
King Balak of Moab was terrified of the Israelites because he saw how powerful they were with God on their side. He hired the prophet Balaam to place a curse on Israel, believing that would weaken them. But you can't curse what God has blessed!
Why did Balaam's donkey keep stopping and swerving off the road?
An angel of the Lord stood in the road with a drawn sword to stop Balaam. The donkey could see the angel even though Balaam couldn't. Each time the donkey tried to avoid the angel, Balaam beat her — not realizing the donkey was actually saving his life.
What happened every time Balaam tried to curse Israel?
Three separate times, King Balak set up altars and asked Balaam to curse Israel. But every single time Balaam opened his mouth, God put blessings there instead. No one can override what God has declared — if He says you are blessed, you are blessed, period.
