Okay — this might be my favorite Paul story. Because it's the one where everything goes wrong, and then everything goes RIGHT. In the most unexpected way possible.

Paul and Silas are in Philippi — a tough Roman colony. Paul casts a spirit out of a slave girl who had been making her owners rich through fortune-telling. And those owners? They are FURIOUS. Their money machine just got shut down.

They drag Paul and Silas to the authorities: "These men are throwing our city into chaos!" The magistrates order them stripped, beaten with rods — MANY blows — and thrown into the deepest cell. The jailer locks their feet in wooden stocks.

This story comes from Acts and is part of the New Testament.

Parent's Guide: Why This Story Matters

Paul's adventures read like an action movie: shipwrecks, prison breaks, riots, snakebites. Kids love this because it is exciting. But underneath the adventure is a lesson about perseverance. Paul never gave up, no matter what happened. When your child faces setbacks, frustration, or the temptation to quit something hard, Paul's story is the one to revisit.
