PAUL'S ADVENTURES — EPISODE 5: PAUL IN CORINTH

Okay — Athens was the city of thinkers. But Corinth? Corinth was the city of EVERYTHING. Wealth. Trade. Wild parties. Temples to false gods. Sailors, merchants, and people from every corner of the empire crammed into one booming, chaotic, anything-goes city. If Athens was a university, Corinth was a Vegas strip mall with a seaport.
Most people would look at Corinth and say, "No way God can work HERE." And that's exactly why Paul went.
When Paul arrives, he's alone and probably tired. He just left Athens where the response was... mixed. Now he's walking into one of the roughest cities in the Roman world.
But then something great happens. He meets Aquila and Priscilla — a Jewish couple forced out of Rome. And get this — they're tentmakers. Same trade as Paul. So he moves in with them and they work side by side making tents during the week while Paul preaches every Sabbath.
I love that. Paul didn't just talk — he WORKED. He made tents with his own hands so he wouldn't be a burden to anyone. Ministry and hard work, side by side.
But not everyone is happy. The Jewish leaders oppose Paul and hurl insults at him. Paul — bold as ever — shakes out his clothes and says, "Your blood is on your own heads! From now on, I will go to the Gentiles."
He moves next door to the synagogue into the house of Titius Justus. And guess what? Crispus, the synagogue leader himself, believes in me along with his entire household. Many Corinthians start believing and getting baptized.
But here's the moment that changes everything. One night, I speak to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid. Keep on speaking. Do not be silent. I am with you, and no one is going to harm you — because I have many people in this city."
I have many people in this city. Corinth — the wild, messy, sinful city — was full of people I was calling to myself. They just hadn't heard the message yet.
Paul stays for eighteen months. And out of that chaotic city, one of the strongest churches in the early world is born. Paul later wrote two letters to them that we still read today.
Here's the lesson: God has people everywhere — even in the places you'd least expect. Don't write off any city, any school, any community. I have many people there. And maybe you're the one I want to send.
