Hey everyone — I want to tell you about one of the most important nights in all of history. A night when a young man made a choice that changed everything.
His name was Solomon. And he had just become king of Israel.
Now picture this — Solomon was young, probably in his early twenties. His father David, the giant-slayer, the warrior-poet, had just died. And suddenly, the weight of an entire nation landed on Solomon's shoulders. Millions of people. Enemies on every border. Decisions that would affect generations.
He was overwhelmed. And honestly? He was scared.
But one night, God showed up in a dream. And what God said would blow your mind. He said: "Ask Me for whatever you want, and I'll give it to you."
Whatever. You. Want.
Think about that for a second. The Creator of the universe — the One who flung the stars into space and carved out the oceans with His fingers — looked at this young king and said, "Name it. It's yours."
Solomon could have asked for anything. Mountains of gold. An army so powerful no one would dare challenge him. A life that would stretch on for hundreds of years.
But Solomon didn't ask for any of that.
He said: "Lord, I'm like a little child. I don't even know how to carry out my duties. So give me a wise and discerning heart — so I can lead Your people and tell the difference between right and wrong."
Did you catch that? He didn't ask for stuff. He asked for wisdom. He asked to be the kind of leader who could actually help people.
And God — oh, I love this part — God was SO pleased. He said: "Because you asked for this instead of long life or wealth or the death of your enemies, I will give you what you asked for. I'll give you a wise and discerning heart like no one has ever had before — or ever will again. AND I'll give you what you didn't ask for — riches and honor — so that in your lifetime you'll have no equal among kings."
Here's what I want you to understand: what you ask for reveals what you truly value. Solomon could have asked for anything. He chose wisdom. And because he chose the right thing first, everything else was added to it.
That's a principle that never changes. Seek wisdom first. Pursue understanding above everything else. When you get your priorities right, the rest follows.
So let me ask you — if God said to you tonight, "Ask Me for anything" — what would you choose?
