What Is the Story of The Beatitudes for Kids?

THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS — Episode 2 "The Beatitudes" Based on Matthew 5:1-12

The very first words of my Sermon on the Mount were so unexpected, so upside-down, that people are STILL trying to wrap their heads around them. I gave eight statements that begin with one word: BLESSED. And what I said next shocked everyone.

The world says blessed are the rich. I said: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Poor in spirit means you know you need God. You're not walking around thinking you've got it all figured out. When you realize you can't do life without Him — THAT is when the kingdom opens up.

The world says blessed are the happy. I said: "Blessed are those who mourn." When your heart breaks over what breaks God's heart — injustice, pain, sin — He draws close and comforts you in a way nobody else can.

This story comes from Matthew/Luke and is part of the New Testament.
