"The Sermon on the Mount"
Based on Matthew 5-7
Picture this: a hillside covered in green grass, a warm breeze blowing, and thousands of people sitting shoulder to shoulder, waiting to hear something that would change the world forever. That hillside was my pulpit. And what I preached that day? It flipped everything upside down.
I sat down — that's how rabbis taught back then — and I opened my mouth and started dropping truth bombs that are STILL shaking the world two thousand years later.
I told them: "You are the salt of the earth." Salt preserves. Salt adds flavor. Without you, the world goes bland and rotten. But here's the thing — if salt loses its saltiness, it's worthless. You were made to make a difference. So make one.
Then I said: "You are the light of the world." You don't light a lamp and shove it under a bucket! No! You put it on a stand so everyone in the house can see. Let your light shine. Don't hide who you are.
But then I went further — and this is where jaws started dropping.
The world says: love your friends, hate your enemies. I said: LOVE your enemies. Pray for people who are mean to you. Anyone can love someone who's nice to them — that's easy! But loving someone who hurt you? That takes real strength. That's the kind of love my Father has, and it's the kind of love I'm calling you to.
I told them: stop worrying about tomorrow. Look at the birds — they don't plant crops or store food in barns, and my Father feeds every single one of them. You are worth SO much more than birds! Tomorrow has enough trouble of its own. Focus on today.
I said: don't judge others. Before you point out the tiny speck in someone else's eye, deal with the giant wooden plank in your own. Get your own life right first.
And I gave them a choice: there are two gates. One is wide and easy — and it leads to destruction. The other is narrow and harder — and it leads to life. Choose the narrow gate.
I finished with a picture they'd never forget. Build your life on my words, and you're like someone who built their house on solid rock. The storms come, the floods rise, but that house stands firm. Ignore my words? You're building on sand. And when the storm hits — CRASH — it all comes down.
This sermon wasn't just advice. It was a blueprint for an entirely different way to live. A kingdom way. My way.
