THE RISE OF KINGS — Episode 1: Israel Wants a King
Based on 1 Samuel 8 | Narrated by Jesus
Hey there! I'm Jesus, and I want to tell you a story about the time my people made a choice that changed EVERYTHING.
So picture this. Samuel — one of the greatest prophets who ever lived — is getting old. He's been leading Israel faithfully for decades. But his sons? Yikes. Joel and Abijah were supposed to take over, but they were crooked. They took bribes. They twisted justice. The people saw this and they were NOT having it.
So the elders of Israel marched up to Samuel and said, "Look, you're old, your sons are a mess — give us a KING. We want a king like all the other nations have!"
Now, that hit Samuel right in the heart. He felt rejected. But when he brought it to my Father in prayer, God said something surprising: "Samuel, don't take it personally. They haven't rejected you — they've rejected ME as their king."
Whoa. Think about that. The God who split the Red Sea, who rained bread from heaven, who led them with fire and cloud — THAT God wasn't enough for them? They wanted to be like everybody else instead.
But my Father is patient. He told Samuel, "Go ahead, warn them what a king will do." And Samuel laid it ALL out. He said, "A king will take your sons and send them to war. He'll take your daughters to cook and bake for him. He'll grab the best of your fields, your vineyards, your olive groves. He'll tax your grain and your flocks. And one day — you will CRY OUT because of the king you chose."
And you know what Israel said? "We don't care! Give us a king anyway! We want to be like everyone else!"
So God said... okay. He gave them what they asked for.
Here's what I want you to understand: wanting to fit in — wanting to look like everyone else — can actually pull you AWAY from what's best for you. My Father had a perfect plan for Israel. He was their protector, their provider, their KING. But they traded that for something that looked cool on the outside.
Don't make that trade. What God has for you is ALWAYS better than what the crowd is chasing.
