THE RISE OF KINGS — Episode 3: Saul's Disobedience Based on 1 Samuel 13, 15 | Narrated by Jesus

Alright, this is where Saul's story takes a hard turn. If last episode was the highlight reel, this one is the moment everything falls apart. Two mistakes. Two chances to get it right. And Saul blows both of them.

Mistake number one. The Philistines were gathering a MASSIVE army — thousands of chariots, soldiers like sand on the seashore. Israel's troops were terrified. They were hiding in caves, behind rocks, in pits — some even ran across the Jordan River. Saul was at Gilgal, waiting for Samuel to come and offer a sacrifice before battle. Samuel said, "Wait seven days. I'll come."

Day one passed. Day two. Day three. Soldiers were deserting left and right. By day seven, Saul panicked. He thought, "If I don't do something NOW, I'll have no army left." So he offered the sacrifice HIMSELF — something only a priest or prophet was supposed to do.

And wouldn't you know it — the MOMENT he finished, Samuel walked up. Samuel looked at him and said, "What have you done?" Saul made excuses: "The soldiers were leaving! You were late! I FELT like I had to do it!" But Samuel shook his head. "You acted foolishly. If you had obeyed, your kingdom would have lasted forever."

Impatience. That was crack number one.

Mistake number two — and this one is even bigger. God gave Saul a clear, specific command: "Go destroy the Amalekites completely. Everything. Leave nothing."

Saul went to battle and won. But instead of obeying completely, he kept the BEST sheep and cattle alive. And he kept King Agag alive too — probably to show off his trophy.

When Samuel arrived, Saul said cheerfully, "I did what God told me to do!" And Samuel said, "Oh really? Then why do I hear sheep BAAING and cattle MOOING?"

Busted.

Saul tried to spin it: "The soldiers kept them to sacrifice to God!" But Samuel dropped one of the most powerful lines in the entire Bible: "To OBEY is better than sacrifice. To LISTEN is better than the fat of rams."

Then Samuel delivered the verdict: "Because you rejected God's word, God has rejected you as king."

Here's the lesson, and I need you to get this deep in your heart: partial obedience is still disobedience. You can't do 90% of what God says and call it good enough. God doesn't want your excuses or your religious performance. He wants your HEART — fully surrendered, fully trusting, fully obedient.
