What Is the Story of Solomon is Chosen for Kids?
KING DAVID'S REIGN — EPISODE 9: SOLOMON IS CHOSEN Scripture: 1 Kings 1-2
Hey friends! Today's story is about a moment every family, every organization, and every kingdom faces — the passing of the torch. David is old now. His hair is white. His hands shake. The mighty warrior who once killed a giant can barely stay warm. But his mind is still sharp — and one final crisis is about to test him.
David's son Adonijah saw his father fading and thought, "It's my turn." He was handsome, ambitious, and next in line by age. So without asking David, without waiting for God's direction, Adonijah threw himself a coronation party. He invited generals, priests, and officials. He sacrificed oxen and sheep. He basically said, "I am the new king" — before the old king had said a word.
But not everyone was on board. Nathan the prophet — the same Nathan who had confronted David years earlier — rushed to Bathsheba with urgent news. "Adonijah is crowning himself king! David doesn't even know. If we don't act, you and Solomon are in danger."
This story comes from 2 Samuel/Psalms and is part of the Old Testament.

Every Bible story is an opportunity to talk with your child about faith in a natural, low-pressure way. After watching, ask an open-ended question like 'What was your favorite part?' or 'What do you think God was trying to teach us?' These conversations do not need to be long or perfect. The goal is simply to make the Bible feel like a living, relevant part of your family's life, not something dusty on a shelf.
