KING DAVID'S REIGN — EPISODE 5: THE SHEPHERD'S SONG — PSALM 23

Friends, we have been through an incredible journey with King David. Now I want to end with the most famous thing David ever wrote. Six verses that have comforted millions for three thousand years. Psalm 23.
To understand this psalm, remember who wrote it. David was not a poet in a library. He was a shepherd boy from Bethlehem who protected his father's sheep from lions and bears with his bare hands. When David wrote about a shepherd, he knew exactly what he meant.
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."
God takes care of me so completely that I lack nothing. And friends — I am your Good Shepherd. That is not just a title. It is a promise.
"He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters."
A sheep will not lie down unless it feels completely safe. Sheep are afraid of rushing water — a good shepherd finds calm streams. God does not just provide — He gives you peace.
"He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake."
When you are exhausted and running on empty — God restores you. And He guides your steps down purposeful paths.
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me."
David did not say if I walk through the valley. He said when. Dark valleys are part of life. But here is the key — he said through. The valley is not your destination. It is a passage. And God walks right beside you.
"Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."
The rod protected sheep from predators. The staff pulled wandering sheep back to safety. God's correction is not punishment — it is protection.
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies."
Even when trouble surrounds you, God spreads out a feast. He does not wait until your problems are gone to bless you.
"You anoint my head with oil. My cup overflows."
Not just enough — more than enough. God's generosity has no limits.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Goodness and mercy are not just ahead of you — they are chasing you down. You cannot outrun God's love.
Friends, I am the Good Shepherd David was writing about. I know My sheep. I call them by name. And I will never, ever let them go.
