What Is the Story of Crossing the Red Sea for Kids?
Hey, welcome back! Buckle up because today's story has one of the most jaw-dropping moments in the entire Bible. We're talking armies, impossible escapes, and an ocean splitting in half. Yeah. You heard me right.
So remember Pharaoh? The guy who finally — after TEN plagues — let my people go? Well, he changed his mind. Can you believe it? The frogs, the darkness, the firstborn — all of that — and this guy goes, "Wait... who's going to do all the work now?" So he gathers his entire army — chariots, horses, soldiers — and chases after Israel at full speed.
Picture this. The Israelites hear the thundering of hooves and chariot wheels behind them. They look back and see the most powerful army on earth charging at them. They look forward and see... the Red Sea. No boats. No bridges. No way out.
What would YOU do? Because the Israelites panicked. They yelled at Moses: "Did you bring us out here to DIE?" And I get it — fear is real. But here's what they forgot: God was right there with them.
This story comes from Exodus 13-15 and is part of the Old Testament.

Parent's Guide: Why This Story Matters
The crucifixion is the most important and most difficult story in the Bible to share with kids. Younger children (5-7) may need a gentler framing focused on Jesus's love and sacrifice. Older children (8+) can handle more of the weight. The key message for all ages: Jesus chose this because He loves us that much. This story is best paired with the Resurrection so your child sees the full picture: Friday was dark, but Sunday was coming.
