Hey! So glad you're back. Last time, God split the Red Sea and rescued an entire nation. You'd think after THAT, the Israelites would trust God for anything, right? Yeah... not so much.
It's been about six weeks since they walked through the sea, and already they're grumbling. "Moses, why did you bring us out here to STARVE? At least in Egypt we had food!" Wait — did they just say they MISSED Egypt? The place where they were SLAVES? That's how cranky hunger makes you, I guess.
But here's what I love about my Father. Even when people complain — even when they forget every amazing thing He's done — He still provides. That's who He is.
God told Moses, "I'm going to rain bread from heaven." That evening, quail flew into the camp — meat for dinner, just like that. But the really wild part came the next morning. The people stepped outside their tents, and the ground was covered with thin, flaky, white stuff. They stared at it and said, "Manna?" which basically means "What IS this thing?"
That became its name — manna! It tasted like wafers made with honey. Fresh bread from the sky, every morning. But there were rules. You could only gather what you needed for THAT day. If you tried to hoard extra? It got wormy and gross by morning. Yuck. God wanted them to trust Him day by day. Except on the sixth day — they gathered double because the seventh day was the Sabbath, a day of rest. And THAT extra didn't spoil. God's got every detail covered.
But they weren't done needing things. At a place called Horeb, there was no water. The complaining kicked in again: "Are we going to die of thirst?" God told Moses to strike a rock with his staff. Moses hit the rock, and water — fresh, clean water — poured out of solid stone. Enough for everyone.
Now, can I tell you a secret? That bread from heaven was pointing to someone. Hundreds of years later, I told a crowd, "I am the true bread from heaven. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry." Manna kept them alive for a day. But I give life that lasts forever.
God provides. Not just once, not just when it's convenient, but every single day. Even when we forget. Even when we complain. He never stops.
Trust Him today — for today. He's got tomorrow handled.
